WELCOME SEAOC Members and Friends,
On behalf of your convention committee, we would like to welcome you to the scenic beauty of the Southern California desert. From Wednesday, September 10 through Saturday, September 13, the 2014 SEAOC Convention will be held at the luxurious Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California.
Let’s mix business and pleasure.
The first call for technical papers has been issued for this year’s convention which is themed “BUILDING ENHANCEMENT: Past, Present, and Future”. Additional information can be found through the following link: 2014 SEAOC Call for Papers Abstract. Prior to the beginning the of convention, the SEAOC State Board and individual State Committee meetings will be held at the hotel. Once the convention officially kicks off Wednesday afternoon, there will be some technical sessions, a chance to talk with the exhibitors, and the welcoming reception held in the evening for all convention attendees.
The following two days will be filled with morning and afternoon technical sessions. Exhibitors are available all day Thursday and half day Friday to learn the latest and greatest about their engineering and construction related products. Refreshment and snack breaks are planned during the technical session to allow the attendees to talk with the exhibitors, make new friends, as well as catch-up with old friends. Lunches are provided both days. The convention events include a Younger Member poster session and the Annual Excellence in Engineering awards ceremonies.
As for pleasure, Indian Wells is known for its Spa Retreats — so pamper yourself to a day at the spa, or just lounge by the pool and soak up the sun. For those interested in a little more activity, there are the convention golf and tennis tournaments, a fun run, as well as local sightseeing and shopping adventures. If you haven’t been to the top of the aerial tramway, elevation 8,500 feet, that might be a day trip you want to plan to get way above the desert floor and look out across the valley below. Tentatively a formal dinner and a casual dinner under the evening stars are being planned. The conference wouldn’t be complete, though, without the annual no-holds-barred traditional President’s Cup that will be Friday afternoon.
So check back periodically to see the latest developments. We welcome you to what we believe will be an enjoyable convention.
